Gareth Bale contributed four goals to Real Madrid’s amazing 10-2 mauling of Rayo Vallecano this afternoon to move closer to becoming the most prolific British goalscorer in La Liga history.
The Welshman’s second took him past Liverpool legend John Aldridge’s tally of 33 for Real Sociedad, and he was honing in on Gary Lineker’s total by the final whistle. Here are all four of Bale’s strikes.

England great Lineker managed 42 in his three years with Barcelona. Bale is now on 36 from 69 games, and it will not take him long to overtake his fellow Tottenham Hotspur alumnus on present form.
The 26-year-old has six goals in his last four league outings for Los Blancos. He also assisted Danilo’s opener at the Bernabeu to move to the top of the La Liga assist charts with six for the season.
Karim Benzema bagged a second-half hat-trick and Cristiano Ronaldo one either side of the break as Real ran riot against a Vallecano side who led 2-1 but had two men sent off before the half-hour mark.
But Bale was the main man, much to Ronaldo’s annoyance, and the £85m world-record signing from Tottenham – fee reported by BBC Sport – is quickly becoming one of British football’s greatest exports.
