Former Argentina and Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron has told Italian media that it would be impossible for Lionel Messi to leave Barcelona, but has insisted that he knows where he would go if he could, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 40-year-old has made the astonishing claim that Lionel Messi told him that he wants to join another of his former clubs, Inter Milan.

Though he admits he will likely never move on from the Catalonians because of the success he has already enjoyed there.

“It’s been a few years, but one time he told me he would like to play for Inter,” he told Tuttosport.

“But let me be clear, this was something that happened in the past.”

“Massimo Moratti was still the owner of Inter and, frankly, I see it impossible for Leo to leave Barcelona.”

Barca are currently sat at the top of the La Liga table, where they lead Atletico Madrid by goal difference and Real Madrid by a further two points.
