Liverpool close in on £23.5m move to beat Spurs to top target Saido Berahino

Liverpool are believed to be close to agreeing a stunning £23.5million move for West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino, and will beat rivals Tottenham to his signature, according to the Daily Star.

The Star cites reports in Spain claiming that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is keen on the England under-21 international and is prepared to launch an offer in order to beat Tottenham to the jump.

Berahino has featured mostly from the Bench for Albion this season, and despite his red hot form last term he has managed just three goals this time around.

He came close to joining Tottenham over the summer, but once that move fell through he ran foul of chairman Jeremy Peace by claiming that he would never play for the club again (via Star).

Since that, Baggies boss Tony Pulis has left the player out of the squad for most of the club’s games, and using him from the bench.

Liverpool, however, have remained keen on his signature, as they continue to struggle in front of goal with both Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings laid low with injury problems.
