Liverpool spent £78.4m on new players last summer, according to Sky Sports, but none of their seven first-team signings made legendary midfielder Graeme Souness’s top five buys of 2015.
Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino were the marquee arrivals at Anfield in the last transfer window, while James Milner, Danny Ings, Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Bogdan and Joe Gomez also joined.
But Souness, who won five English titles and three European Cups as a player with the Reds, has not been impressed with his former club’s business compared to that of their Premier League rivals.
He feels Arsenal’s Petr Cech, Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld, Crystal Palace’s Yohan Cabaye, Leicester City’s N’Golo Kante and West Ham United’s Dimitri Payet have been the standout buys.

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has helped Arsenal to the top of the table by the close of the year and set a new record for Premier League clean sheets with 170 shutouts in the process.
Alderweireld has also made a significant difference in North London, helping Spurs to the best defensive record in the division this season as Mauricio Pochettino’s team push for the title.
Leicester are the shock contenders in the championship race and N’Golo Kante has been somewhat of an unsung hero until recent weeks. The midfielder tops the Premier League for tackle and interceptions.
Cabaye and Payet both arrived from France and have helped put Palace and West Ham respectively into the European mix. Both have scored five league goals while Payet has also contributed four assists.
