Arsenal & Chelsea face unlikely competition for cultured defender

Norwich City have emerged as the latest unlikely suitors for Olympique de Marseille defender Nicolas Nkoulou, according to reports in France.

The cultured Cameroon defender was linked with a move to Arsenal and Chelsea during the summer, but ultimately, the former opted not to make a move, while the latter chose to sign another Ligue 1 defender—Papy Djilobodji—instead.

As such, Nkoulou remained in France, but with his contract coming to an end during the summer, it appears likely that he may move in January, as OM take their final opportunity to cash in on the player.

According to L’Equipe [via Le 10 Sport], the versatile defender may be on his way to East Anglia, with the Canaries understood to be desperate to secure a deal.

Marseille have already rejected an offer of €10 million for the player from domestic rivals Olympique Lyonnais, but may struggle to turn down any lucrative offer from Norwich.

Should he move to the EPL, Nkoulou has the prospect of uniting along with his national teammate Sebastian Bassong in the heart of the defence, a pairing that might give Norwich an excellent chance of avoiding relegation.
