Brad Smith goal video v Exeter City: Aussie’s volley salvages 2-2 draw for lucky Liverpool

Brad Smith has become the second Australian to score for Liverpool.

The 21-year-old, making his fifth first-team appearance for the Reds, fired an instinctive volley past Exeter City goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik after 73 minutes of Friday night’s FA Cup tie to salvage a 2-2 draw for the young Reds.

Classy winger Harry Kewell is the only other Aussie to score for Liverpool. The 2005 Champions League winner would have been proud of Smith’s effort, which came against the run of play.

League Two Exeter caused Liverpool lots of problems on a muddy pitch.

Exeter took the lead on nine minutes when man-of-the-match Tom Nichols slid home, but the Reds were level moments later courtesy of Jerome Sinclair’s first Reds goal.

Lee Holmes then scored direct from a corner kick on the stroke of half time, but that was not to be the winner thanks to Smith’s late intervention.
