Liverpool can sign midfield general for just £6m

According to reports, Liverpool can get their hands on Fiorentina midfield general Mario Suarez for a bargain-basement fee of £6 million.

La Gazzetta dello Sport [via the Mirror] have reported that Fiore are keen to offload the ex-Atletico Madrid flop, and are willing to slash his price tag to the very reasonable £6 million in order to see him out of the door.

The midfield general—who is effective as an enforcer and can also prompt the action with the ball at his feet—moved to La Viola during the summer from La Liga, but has wholly failed to assert himself at Paulo Sousa’s high flyers.

The Tuscany outfit may have been defeated by Lazio at the weekend, but they are still enjoying a fine campaign in the Italian top flight and find themselves fourth—three points behind leaders Napoli—after 19 matches.

Despite the side’s success, Suarez has been a peripheral figure, managing to complete only four full fixtures for the Serie A side.

The Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Liverpool were keen on the 28-year-old earlier in the month, although Liverpool do face competition from Ligue 1 heavyweights Olympique de Marseille, with L’Equipe noting that the experienced operator is also being considered by the hierarchy at the Stade Velodrome.
