Liverpool in danger of missing out on midfield general as London side close in on transfer swoop

Watford are close to sealing a deal to sign Fiorentina midfield general Mario Suarez, in news that may well come as a blow to Liverpool.

According to loan reports, the Hornets are primed to complete a deal for the midfielder in the coming days, with the Watford Observer reporting that the two clubs have been embroiled in negotiations for almost a week.

One decisive factor in Suarez opting for Watford, according to reports, is the chance to work with manager Quique Sanchez Flores—with the pair having enjoyed a spell together at Atletico Madrid.

Indeed, it is this factor which may well give Watford the edge over the players’ various other suitors, with Liverpool, Valencia and West Bromwich Albion all also understood to be keen on his services.

It remains to be seen whether the Reds—who were understood to be tempted by the player’s bargain £6 million price tag [La Gazzetta dello Sport via the Mirror]—will look to beat Watford to the deal and coax the player to Anfield.
