Liverpool face competition from French giants for exquisite playmaker

Olympique de Marseille look set to compete with Liverpool for the services of Mario Suarez in the January transfer window.

Suarez was signed by Fiorentina from Atletico Madrid during the summer—despite reported interest from the Reds—but after clashing with coach Paulo Sousa, he may be set to move on in the next transfer window.

He has featured only four times in Serie A so far this season, and has struggled to settle in Tuscany. To date, he has yet to play for the Viola in October, but Sousa’s outfit are doing just fine without him and are firmly in the midst of the title race in Italy.

The defensive midfielder boasts excellent experience, and having won the Spanish title with Atleti and helped Diego Simeone’s side to the Champions League final, he would have a transformative effect on Liverpool’s midfield.

However, according to reports in France, Liverpool now face transfer competition from Marseille, with coach Michel keen to bring his compatriot to the Stade Velodrome.

However, while Lassana Diarra is performing impressively in the heart of the midfield for OM, the Phoceens have been less than impressive in attack and may well opt to invest in their attack come the January window.

Could Liverpool be set to profit from the midfielder’s unhappiness?
