Arsenal injury news: Huge double-boost at midfield ahead of Chelsea clash

Posted by

The Gunners found themselves sorely missing superstar midfielders Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez during their 0-0 draw against Stoke City that allowed Manchester City and Leicester City to climb back into the title race. Luckily, with Arsenal‘s important derby against Chelsea coming up, Arsenal are poised to get two of their best players back from injury.

According to the Metro, both Ozil and Sanchez are expected to return for the Arsenal-Chelsea derby on January 24. Manager Arsene Wenger explained that Ozil is dealing with some minor foot inflammation while Alexis Sanchez could have played against Stoke City, but was ultimately benched as a precaution.

‘He should be back,’ Wenger said regarding Ozil. ‘He has (minor) inflammation of his foot.’

Unfortunately, Arsenal have still struggled to maintain their tentative lead in the Premier League even with Ozil healthy, winning just one of their last five matches and claiming just five points in that span while Man City and the Foxes chase them down.

Per the Metro, four of the team’s injured stars are expected to return between February and March: Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin, Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere.
