Luis Suarez lashes out at FIFA for Ballon d’Or snub

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has hit out at FIFA after he left off their shortlist for this year’s Ballon d’Or, The Sun reports.

The Uruguayan international didn’t attend the awards event back in December when he failed to make the final three and had to watch teammates Neymar and Lionel Messi compete with Cristiano Ronaldo for the top prize.

Messi went on to win the award, but Suarez has insisted that bad feelings towards the governing body kept him away on the night.

“FIFA invited me to the Ballon d’Or gala using the excuse that I’d been named the best player at the Club World Cup,” he said.

“I don’t think they’ve ever invited the winner of that prize before and it just so happens that they thought to invite me.”

Suarez already has previous dark dealings with FIFA after he was given a four month ban and a £65,000 fine for biting Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup.

“It was a tournament that I was really excited about and I tried not to think about who had organised it.”
