Ex-Tottenham flop & current EPL hero breaks remarkable record

Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has set an astonishing record on Saturday as they Hornets registered a 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

The stopper—who was regularly ridiculed during a mixed spell at Tottenham Hotspur—twice saved Saido Berahino penalties to not only keep Quique Flores’s side alive in the contest, but also set the stage for victory.

In twice blocking the Anglo-Burundian forward—and coincidentally, a Spurs transfer target—Gomes became the first goalkeeper ever to save two penalties in two separate matches.

The Brazilian stopper previously achieved the feat in April 2010, when he twice denied Darren Bent from the spot as Spurs fell to a 3-1 defeat to Sunderland in the EPL.

While Berahino endured a miserable outing against Watford, Ben Watson emerged as the star of the show, finding the net in the first half to take the Hornets to 12th place in the table on 41 points.
