Manchester United not facing competition for managerial target from Premier League rivals

Jose Mourinho has reportedly not been approached by Everton over the past week with a view of becoming their next manager ahead of next season.

The Portuguese tactician has long been linked with the post at Manchester United, should the Premier League giants opt to make a change this summer and replace Louis van Gaal.

However, with the Toffees sacking Roberto Martinez last week, they are also in the market for a new boss and reports over the weekend had claimed they had made contact with Mourinho to gauge his interest in the position.

According to Sky Sports sources though, that was not the case and the Merseyside club have not approached his representatives, thus suggesting that United remain in pole position to appoint Mourinho if they ultimately decide to shake things up at Old Trafford in the coming months.

For his part, the former Chelsea boss has insisted that he plans on returning to management this summer after being sacked by the west London outfit last December.

Although no agreement is in place with United, it is widely assumed that that is the job that he wants, as he eyes a return to the top level in England having enjoyed great success in the Premier League previously.

Whether United make their move remains to be seen, but for the time being, there doesn’t appear to be too much in the way of competition standing in their way to deny them the chance to bring in the ‘Special One’.

While Everton will have ambitious plans moving forward, it doesn’t seem quite like the right fit with Mourinho, and so perhaps any attempt to convince him to move to Goodison Park would be in vain anyway.
