Video: Kouyate scores West Ham’s first ever goal at Olympic stadium but some fans complain about the view

West Ham won their first game at their new home the London Stadium beating Slovenian outfit Domzale 3-0 in the Europa League play-off stage.

Cheikhou Kouyate scored the first ever goal in the new stadium and Caught Offside’s Rob Summerscales was there to capture the whole thing.

There were however, some fans not too happy about how far the seats in the new stadium are from the pitch – the seats at Upton Park were among the closest to pitch-side in the Premier League.

Summer signing Sofiane Feghouli scored his first goal in a competitive game and Cheikhou Kouyate bagged a first half brace to take the Hammers through the next round with a 4-2 aggregate victory.

The East London based outfit played in front of 54,000 fans and head coach Slaven Bilic revealed that he though West Ham deserved the victory.

Bilic said: “It was a special kind of game for us, the first game at the new Stadium. We played good football. It was totally different to the game in Slovenia.

“The early goal helped, but we deserved it. We pushed and concentrated for the whole 90 minutes but 3-0 is a good result for us. We are through and it’s important because it is in front of the crowd in the new Stadium. It was a good night for West Ham.

“We deserved it, played some good stuff and the crowd could enjoy some of our beautiful moves from the whole team. I like the way we defended and attacked.”

Summer signing Gokhan Tore missed the game due to not recovering from an injury he picked up last week.

Bilic also stated that he was delighted with Kouyate’s display and underlined that he has more to his game than his defensive ability.

“Cheikhou has a great engine and determination and quality and those large, long strides make the pitch look small when he’s covering it,” Bilic continued. “He’s a great asset.

“Sometimes when he plays deeper it limits his movement up front. He’s a top player and he’s getting in good shape.”

Feghouli was also praised for his performance but Bilic stated that he still needs to work on his fitness to get in shape for the start of the league campaign.

“Sofiane Feghouli is a special kind of player and that’s why we’re happy to get him. He scored a great goal and could have got more. He works hard for the team,” he added.

“He still isn’t in his best shape, which is normal for this stage, and when he does, we’re expecting great things from him.”

Finally Bilic underlined just what a special occasion it was to play for the first time in their new stadium.

“It was brilliant to go out in front of a packed, loud Stadium. We enjoyed it,” he said.
