Arsenal striker signing expected as £17m Spaniard who has started new season on fire is tipped snub Premier League rival

An Arsenal striker signing is what Gunners fans crave more than anything and it seems their prayers could soon be answered.

That’s because, according to Sky Sports, Arsenal are set to beat Everton to the signature of Deportivo forward Lucas Perez.

Sky claim that Everton were close to bringing the 27-year-old to Goodison Park after triggering his £17m release clause.

However, the same source are now reporting that Arsenal are in early talks with Perez, who is said to prefer a move to the Emirates Stadium because of the chance to play Champions League football.

Perez scored 17 goals and provided eight assists in 3,141 La Liga minutes last season and he has started the new campaign on fire.

He starred as Deportivo began their 2016-17 campaign with 2-1 win over Eibar last weekend.

Perez set up Pedro Mosquera for his side’s equaliser against Eibar before scoring the winner in the 87th minute.

At 1.81m in height, Perez is significantly taller than Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott, but he is dwarved by Olivier Giroud, who stands at 1.92m.

Perez’s former clubs include PAOK, Rayo Vallecano and Karpaty Lviv.
