Santi Cazorla reiterates stance on new Arsenal contract as wait goes on

Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has again insisted that he is ready to sign a new contract with the club, but is still waiting for one to be offered.

The 31-year-old is out-of-contract in the summer, and given his importance to Arsene Wenger’s side, it will be baffling to many that he continues to edge closer to becoming a free agent.

Having joined Arsenal in 2012, Cazorla has gone to make 128 league appearances for the club, and is an instrumental part of the team in his deeper midfield role.

Although he missed a significant part of last season due to injury, he appears to have put that behind him with a string of influential displays so far this year, and has again insisted that he is happy to sign a new contract with the Gunners.

“I am happy here. I am trusted by the manager and my team-mates,” he told Cadena Ser.

“I am feeling important here, and if they’ll offer me a new contract, I’ll sign it because I am very happy with this great club.”

It remains to be seen whether or not that new deal arrives, with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez also linked with being offered new contracts in the not too distant future.

Arsenal are going well this season after bouncing back from that opening weekend loss to Liverpool, and tying their top players down to new long-term deals will only continue to build a positive atmosphere at the club.
