Chelsea transfer news: £26.5m target responds to interest from Premier League giants

Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi has admitted that it’s nice to hear of interest from Chelsea, but he has no desire to leave Spain any time soon.

As noted by Mundo Deportivo, the French ace has a contract with the La Liga outfit until 2019 and has a buyout clause worth £26.5m.

While that report linked him with a move to Barcelona, he has also been forced to address speculation that a return to England is on the cards.

However, having settled well in Sevilla and with an important role to play under Jorge Sampaoli, it doesn’t appear that an exit has even crossed his mind.

“It’s nice, it’s good,” N’Zonzi told L’Equipe of interest from Chelsea, as reported by FourFourTwo. “But I always say that this type of club is interested in other players too.

“I am not the only one. I know that big clubs are interested in many players. I focus on what I do at Sevilla. Until there is something concrete, we must remain professional.

“Some clubs were interested [in the close-season], but I feel good at Sevilla. I enjoy the game, the football, I like the way Sevilla play, I feel good in the city, with the fans and the club and I’m enjoying myself.”

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will undoubtedly continue to look at ways to strengthen his squad and stamp his own mark on it in the upcoming transfer windows.

The midfield could be an area that needs bolstering given that John Obi Mikel’s contract expires at the end of the season and Cesc Fabregas has struggled to make an impact under the Italian tactician and has regularly found himself on the bench this year.

It hasn’t harmed Chelsea’s Premier League title hopes though as they have stormed back into contention in recent weeks, and provided that they at least qualify for the Champions League, they’ll certainly be in a strong position to go out and bring in quality players to build on the strengths of their current group.
