Chelsea boss Antonio Conte had previous offer from a Premier League club

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte previously had an offer to join a club in the Premier League but it fell through, report the Daily Star.

Conte took the reigns at Stamford Bridge in the summer, but the Daily Star quote him in revealing that he could have moved to the Premier League during his playing days: “Once I had an opportunity to come but then it did not happen. But now, as a coach, I am in time to have this fantastic experience.”

The Italian won virtually everything there is to win at club level during his time at Juventus as a player. Conte lifted 15 pieces of silverware in Turin, including five league titles and the UEFA Champions League. It could have been a lot different, however, if he proposed move to an English club didn’t fall through.

The Chelsea faithful will no doubt be delighted that Conte did eventually move to the Premier League. He appears to have taken the Blues from mid-table mediocrity to genuine title challengers. After five wins on the bounce, Chelsea sit just one point behind leaders Liverpool.
