Manchester United target states his intentions to stay put

The problem (for other clubs) with talented young players moving to Madrid is that, if they’re good, they have nowhere else to go. There is no higher level of team to play for, so they can end up staying there for a very long time, with nobody else able to get a turn with them.

That was the case with Marcelo, who has just celebrated ten years at the Bernabeu, and it looks like it will be the case with Raphael Varane too.

The French defender, signed for the club by Jose Mourinho in 2011, is linked away every now and again, but it is hard to see any move being more tempting than playing for Real.

According to this interview in Le Figaro, Varane is happy in Madrid and would like to retire there. This really does pour cold water on the rumours of a move to rejoin Jose at Manchester United, which were pretty flimsy to begin with.
