Southampton target loan deal for Liverpool striker with view to £25M permanent move

Southampton are interested in signing Daniel Sturridge on loan in January with a view to making the move permanent in the summer, report the Express.

The Express believe that Southampton are long-term admirers of Sturridge and are keen to sign the England international on loan until the end of the season. It is also reported that the Saints would consider paying the £25 million asking price in order to make the move permanent next summer.

Sturridge has fallen out of favour at Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp often choosing to field Roberto Firmino as a loan striker. With the success Liverpool have enjoyed in recent weeks, the German has had little reason to tinker with the system.

Southampton could be ready to offer 27-year-old an exit route. However, the Express note that Claude Puel’s side are not alone in their interest in Sturridge. West Ham, Stoke City and AC Milan are all also named as potential suitors.

The Sturridge situation is certainly one to keep an eye on at Liverpool.
