The Alexis Sanchez contract saga is a very serious subject for Arsenal fans.
Alexis is Arsenal’s best player (sorry Mesut, but it’s true). He makes them tick and is the only man in the Gunners squad who genuinely terrifies the opposition.
Simply put, Alexis MUST stay at the Emirates Stadium if Arsenal are to challenge for trophies in the years to come.
The Chile international only has 18 months left to run on his current deal and that fact, coupled with transfer talk, has been making Gooners feel very uneasy.
Alexis hadn’t spoken about the issue either. And that silence has only increased the paranoia levels in North London.
However, this week silence was broken, as Alexis spoke exclusively to Sky Sports.
Talking ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Manchester City on Sunday, Alexis was asked by Geoff Shreeves about his desire to sign a new contract with the club he joined in 2014.
Alexis replied: “I’m focused more on winning football matches – I’m staying concentrated on that.
“It really doesn’t depend on me – if they want to show confidence in me. I’m very happy at the club. I love all the staff. I’m very grateful for everybody here.”
He reiterated: “It depends on Arsenal.”
Depends on Arsenal doing what though? Coming up with mega money? Signing you some better teammates? What, Alexis? What!!?
