£17m Arsenal misfit on his way out as PL rivals consider summer swoop

Arsenal forward Lucas Perez is reportedly set to last just one season at the Emirates, with West Ham United keen on signing him this summer.

The Spanish forward arrived in a £17m deal from Deportivo La Coruna last summer, but he has been limited to just 22 games in all competitions.

Injuries have also played a part in that as he has picked up problems constantly, but having fallen down the pecking order under Arsene Wenger, it hasn’t quite been the season he had hoped for with the Gunners.

Still, he’s managed to score eight goals and provide six assists in those outings, and so evidently there is quality there to make it work in the Premier League.

That’s where West Ham come into it as The Mirror claim that the Hammers will launch a bid for the 28-year-old at the end of the season, and it’s expected that they’ll have to splash out a similar figure to what Arsenal spent in order to prise him away from the north London giants.

Aside from the frustration of not playing as often as he would like, the report goes on to claim that Perez has had his issues off the pitch too with question marks being raised over his attitude and approach this season.

All that combined would suggest that it’s a matter of when not if he leaves Arsenal, and so it will be down to Slaven Bilic and the West Ham hierarchy to come up with a suitable offer with Wenger, or his possible successor, likely to use that money to reinvest in the squad.
