Man Utd given major boost in pursuit of £85m La Liga superstar

Man Utd have reportedly received a major boost with news that Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale is open to a move if the Spanish giants decide to sell him this summer.

The 27-year-old has struggled with injuries this season, which in turn have limited him to 26 appearances in all competitions. In those outings though, he’s still managed nine goals and five assists with Los Blancos on course for a La Liga and Champions League double.

According to The Independent though, should United decide to switch their focus to the Welshman, he would be willing to move to Old Trafford if Madrid opt to sell him and strengthen with new faces themselves this summer.

It’s claimed that sources have told the paper that a transfer is “much likelier” than ever since Bale moved to the Bernabeu, but it’s complicated by the fact that Jose Mourinho is keen on various other targets as their marquee signing at the end of the season.

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann remains his preference, while the likes of Andrea Belotti and Neymar are also touted as targets, but based on the money involved and if there is an openness to negotiate, then perhaps Bale could become a more serious candidate in the coming weeks.

The former Tottenham ace has enjoyed his spell in Spain since making an £85m move to the Spanish capital in 2013, as reported by BBC Sport, scoring 67 goals in 149 appearances for the La Liga giants while winning two Champions League trophies, the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

However, with an argument that Madrid have looked a more fluid unit since Bale got injured last month, coupled with the fact that they’ve been linked with making big-name signings this summer which will need to be financed through the sale of players too, the Welsh star could be on his way out if Mourinho is convinced that he’s the right man to add to his Man Utd squad.
