Lionel Messi apologises for embarrassing gaffe, shows his class after mistake

Lionel Messi was reportedly left red-faced as he failed to recognise fellow Argentine Sebastian Driussi who stopped him for a photo in Russia.

Driussi, 21, plays for Zenit St Petersburg and has represented Argentina at U17 and U20 level. One of his heroes was in town this week as the senior side face Russia in an international friendly, and he managed to get a snap with Messi, as seen in his Instagram post below.

According to TyC Sports, Messi didn’t realise it was a fellow footballer and compatriot that he was taking a photo with and only realised after he saw the Instagram mention.

In turn, it’s claimed that he has since reached out and apologised to Driussi, showing his class as he would likely have been left a little embarrassed by the mistake as he’s undoubtedly lost count of the number of selfies with fans that he’s taken over the years and mistook Driussi for another.

However, while it isn’t revealed what was said in the reported apology, it’s claimed that one did arrive for the youngster and he’ll no doubt value that just as much as the picture. Top bloke Lionel…
