Ex-Fifa President Sepp Blatter accused of sexually harassing World Cup winner

Female footballer and World Cup winner Hope Solo has accused former FIFA president Sepp Blatter of sexually harassing her during an awards ceremony.

A report from the Daily Mirror has cited a report from a Portuguese newspaper Expresso in which the international star Solo claims Blatter “grabbed her ass” just before the two went on stage at the 2013 Ballon d’Or awards.

The 81-year-old Blatter has been covered in controversy over the past few years and the recent accusations of sexual harassment are only sure to drag his reputation down even further below than it previously was. The Swiss resigned as FIFA president in 2015 following a string of accusations of corruption. (As per the BBC.)

In 2015 Hope Solo won the World Cup with her national side playing every single minute in the tournament. She is greatly respected amongst the world of football and has often been regarded by many as one of the finest goalkeepers in women’s football.

The American international recently took to Instagram to post a revealing account of how she has been the victim of sexual harassment. The comments are shocking and revealing to say the least and are sure to warrant a much needed investigation into the issues that have been raised.

We salute Solo’s bravery in coming forward with her recent comments and hope that this will help to allow others to come forward with any similar stories to bring justice to anyone within the world of football who has abused their position.
