Arsenal news: Jack Wilshere offers key update on future

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has seemingly raised concern levels for fans over his future at the club after suggesting he wants more playing time.

It’s a tricky time for the 25-year-old, as his current Arsenal contract is set to expire at the end of the season and so he effectively must play his way into a new deal.

However, while Arsene Wenger has used him in a prominent role in the Europa League so far this season, starting the last four games, Wilshere has totalled just 25 minutes of football in the Premier League.

In turn, not only will that be a source of frustration, but it will be a concern as ultimately the England international will want to play as often as possible to prove his worth and secure his long-term future in north London.

“Of course I want to be playing. It’s difficult when you play every three weeks,” he is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

“It’s the same as every player. I’m still determined to win my place back, I’m working hard and we’ll see what the future holds – if I can get in or I can’t.”

It sounds as though Wilshere remains focused on battling for his place in the starting line-up in the league for now, but it remains to be seen what effect a continued snub will have on him.

For the most part, he has impressed in his displays in Europe, and so it surely is only a matter of time before he gets a run of games in the Premier League as he’s arguably one of Wenger’s better options in midfield in the squad.
