Antoine Griezmann looks increasingly close to sealing his transfer to Manchester United after reports of fresh talks between himself and Jose Mourinho in Madrid.
The Red Devils boss has apparently been in the Spanish capital to cement an agreement with the Atletico Madrid star, during which he chose his squad number for next season, according to Don Balon.
The Sun recently reported Griezmann and Gareth Bale would be among Mourinho’s top targets for next summer, while another report from Don Balon suggested a pre-contract agreement was already in place over an £89million move.
Don Balon list Griezmann’s release clause at €100m, though current exchange rates have that as being closer to £88m as opposed to previous valuations of his fee in sterling.
Regardless, United look in a good position to bring Griezmann to Old Trafford in what will surely go down as one of the most exciting moves of next summer.
Mourinho’s reported trip to Madrid to help reaffirm the Frenchman’s commitment to the move seems a sensible one, and fans will be hoping they can now rely on the player’s word to move to Manchester in the summer.
It is not clear what number Griezmann is alleged to have chosen at United, but the number 7 seems a natural fit for a forward of his style, and it is currently available.
Big names like David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo have worn that famous number at United in recent times and Griezmann is a big enough name to take on such a mantle.
