Neymar urges PSG to launch raid on Barcelona for former teammate

The past 12 months haven’t gone quite to plan for Neymar, as injury frustration at Paris Saint-Germain coupled with Brazil’s World Cup exit has made it a disappointing year.

The 26-year-old made a positive impact on his arrival in France and ended his first campaign with the Parisian giants with 28 goals and 16 assists in 30 appearances while the club continued their domestic dominance.

However, Neymar was sidelined from March onwards with an injury, and as he battled back to full fitness, he was unable to inspire Brazil in the 2018 World Cup in Russia as they bowed out in the quarter-finals after defeat to Belgium.

In turn, his focus will now return to club matters in the coming weeks as he looks to continue to shine for PSG while winning more major honours as the talisman having left Barcelona last summer.

According to Sport though, the Brazilian forward is reportedly keen on a reunion with Luis Suarez, as it’s claimed that he has requested the club look to sign him.

Whether or not the 31-year-old can be prised away from Barcelona is one likely obstacle standing in the way, while it’s also unclear as to whether the Uruguayan international would even be keen on such a move.

Suarez enjoyed another productive campaign with the Catalan giants last season, scoring 31 goals and providing 18 assists in 51 outings after a slow start, and it’s claimed in the report from Sport that he would essentially arrive to replace compatriot Edinson Cavani who is being tipped to leave Paris amid ongoing issues with Neymar.

Cavani has been prolific for PSG since he arrived from Napoli in 2013, scoring 170 goals in 245 games, while winning four league titles and a whole host of domestic cups.

In turn, it’s questionable as to whether it would be the most sensible idea from the club if they were to pursue such a switch, and so it remains to be seen if Neymar gets his reported wish or not of a reunion with Suarez with new coach Thomas Tuchel’s opinion likely to also carry plenty of weight in the matter too.
