Liverpool have reportedly made contact with the agent of Juventus forward Paulo Dybala as they consider beating Manchester United to his signature.

The Argentina international was recently linked as a target for United in a deal likely to be worth roughly £88million, according to Spanish source Don Balon.

That report claimed Jose Mourinho was keen to land Dybala as an alternative to Cristiano Ronaldo, who has just joined Juventus to rival the player for a spot in attack.

Despite Dybala long being highly regarded as one of the top young forwards in the game, the 24-year-old had an inconsistent season last term and increasingly found himself out of favour under manager Massimiliano Allegri.

According to journalist Mootaz Chehade, Liverpool have now been in touch with Dybala’s agent about a possible transfer, and the player could be open to a move but will decide his future after finding out Allegri’s plans for him in the wake of the Ronaldo signing.

Dybala could be a fine signing for Liverpool as they look in need of more depth behind their first choice front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Beating major rivals like United to his signature would also be a big boost, with both clubs likely to be the main challengers to Manchester City in next season’s title race, making a strong transfer window crucial to their preparations this summer.
