Liverpool have reportedly opened talks with Stoke City over the potential signing of Switzerland winger Xherdan Shaqiri.

This is according to the Telegraph, who state that boss Jurgen Klopp has his eye set on the Swiss international after the club completed the signing of Fabinho, and that Shaqiri himself has expressed his want to leave the club following the Potters’ relegation.

The Liverpool Echo have reported that the former Inter Milan and Bayern Munich star has a release clause of around £13.5M in his deal, a price that is an absolute bargain for a player of his quality.

Liverpool have taken a step closer to signing Shaqiri from Stoke this summer

The midfielder has been a revelation since his move to Stoke from Inter in the summer of 2015, with the winger really coming into his own for Paul Lambert’s side this season just gone.

The 26-year-old managed to bag eight goals and seven assists in 36 league appearances for the Potters this season, however this wasn’t enough to save the club from being relegated to the Championship.

The winger’s ability to score from inside or outside the box, as well as his killer delivery from wide positions will make the £13.5M release clause look like an absolute bargain to any team interested in him.
