Chelsea have been handed a transfer boost in their pursuit of Real Madrid and Croatia star Mateo Kovacic, after the player admitted he wanted to leave Los Blancos this summer.

This is according to Diario Gol, who are noting that the World Cup finalist has stated that he wants to secure a transfer away from the Santiago Bernabeu due to the lack of minutes he is getting in the Spanish capital.

Don Balon have reported in the past that Blues are very keen on signing the midfielder, and that the club may be willing to pay the £89M (€100m) that Rael value him at.

Signing another midfielder to play in the centre of the park may be a wise move from Chelsea following the arrival of new manager Maurizio Sarri.

The Italian’s play-style requires his players, particularly his central midfielders, to press very aggressively and high up the pitch.

This may mean that players such as Cesc Fabregas, N’Golo Kante and Jorginhoc could begin to get a little jaded as the season goes on, meaning that having a player like Kovacic on the sidelines would provide a great asset off the bench for the Blues.

Above all this, Kovacic is still a very good player and, in some people’s view, has been treated somewhat unfairly by Los Blancos during his time in the Spanish capital.

Signing him would be a great move by the Blues, something that just seems to have become a little easier following this recent news.
