Manchester United are reportedly set to hand Anthony Martial a £180,000 fine for going AWOL from pre-season training.

While the Red Devils did give Martial permission to temporarily leave the club’s pre-season tour in the US to be present for the birth of his son, he was expected to return swiftly but has now not trained for eight days, according to the Sun.

The France international endured a difficult time at Old Trafford last season after being in and out of Mourinho’s side, and this is far from ideal preparation to the new campaign.

Luckily for United, the Daily Mirror report that the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford could come to the club’s aid by cutting their holidays short in the hope of making it back for the Premier League opener against Leicester City.

The attacking duo made it to the semi-finals of the World Cup this summer with Belgium and England, respectively, so would not have been expected to be back in action for United this soon.

However, it looks like desperate times for Mourinho as he struggles with the Martial situation and needs more options up front alongside Alexis Sanchez and co.
