However, for a side which finished 19 points adrift of champions Man City in the Premier League last season, coupled with their defeat in the FA Cup final which left them trophy-less, it’s questionable as to whether that trio is enough to help them bridge the gap this season.

Mourinho will certainly be hoping to get more out of his current squad in order to ensure that happens, and the new arrivals offer quality and depth in key areas.

Nevertheless, more was arguably expected from Man Utd this summer by many considering their rivals have strengthened significantly, but Mourinho has conceded that he doesn’t now expect any more new faces before Thursday’s transfer deadline for English clubs.

“The information I have is no,” he replied when asked if he knew of any further arrivals, as reported by Sky Sports. “I’m not confident.

“The market closes today so there’s time at least for me to stop thinking about it. I will have to focus on the players I have in relation to the first three matches.”

United get their Premier League campaign underway on Friday night when they host Leicester City. With the potential disappointment of not seeing more signings made, the Man Utd faithful will undoubtedly be desperate to see their side make a positive start to the season at least to boost morale after an indifferent pre-season.
