Real Madrid duo Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale are reportedly among the big names at the club left stunned by their interest in the transfer of Thiago Alcantara.
This is according to Diario Gol, who state that some Madrid players double-checked if the interest in the Bayern Munich star was a joke as he emerges as one of their priorities to strengthen in midfield.
Alcantara has been a top player during his time at Bayern, though injuries have occasionally held him back from fulfilling his true potential.
And yet, it seems many at the Bernabeu don’t rate him that highly, with Diario Gol claiming the likes of Ramos and Bale believe they could be going after better players in that position.
This seems harsh on Alcantara, but it remains to be seen how this will affect Madrid’s plans in the coming weeks as Diario Gol suggest they’re keen to sign a replacement for Mateo Kovacic after his recent loan switch to Chelsea.
Alcantara could also be an ideal long-term replacement for Luka Modric in midfield, while Toni Kroos also suffered a dip in form at points last season.
