Gareth Bale holds secret Real Madrid transfer meeting just days before the European deadline

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has reportedly held a secret meeting with club president Florentino Perez to discuss transfer plans for the final few days of the window.

La Liga, Ligue 1 and Bundesliga clubs have until August 31 to sign new players this summer, despite the deadline passing for Premier League and Serie A sides earlier this month.

Bale is now reportedly keen for Real to act and sign a new striker in the coming days, according to Don Balon, with big names like Mauro Icardi and Timo Werner among the options seemingly being considered.

Madrid look a little light up front after letting Cristiano Ronaldo join Juventus, with no major new attacking players brought in so far.

Real don’t have long to get their act together now, but Don Balon suggest Bale has urged Perez to sign a new centre-forward in the next few days.

Real Madrid could do with replacing Karim Benzema

Karim Benzema is currently first choice up front, but doesn’t look the most reliable option after a poor campaign in front of goal by his standards last term.

The Frenchman could perhaps be past his peak now at the age of 30, having spent over 12 years playing consistently at the highest level, first for Lyon, and later for Madrid.

Benzema scored just five in La Liga last season, and 12 in all competitions, which is hardly the kind of return you’d expect from a top-level striker at a club of Los Blancos’ ambitions.
