Lionel Messi has set his Barceloan teammates the difficult challenge of winning all of their Champions League group stage games this year, after the Blaugrana were handed a tricky group in the competition on Thursday.
According to Don Balon, Messi has challenged his Barca teammates to win every single group games in the European competitions this campaign, something that will require them to beat Spurs and Inter Milan away if it’s to be done.
The report also states that Messi wants the Spanish giants to hit the ground running from the get-go in the Champions League this year, something they’re probably going to have to do if they are to finish top of their group.
With Barcelona being drawn in a group of Tottenham, Inter Milan and PSV this year, many fans have been calling their group this year’s version of the ‘Group of Death’.
Barcelona last came up against Inter in the Champions League in the 2010 semi finals, as the Nerazzurri overcame the Blaugrana 3-2 on aggregate on their way to securing their first ever treble.
Facing Spurs will be no easy task either, as the north London side have stars like Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, players who are some of the best in the world in their respective positions.
Reigning dutch champions PSV will be another tricky task, as they will be hoping that main man Hirving Lozano can lead them to a decent performance in European club football’s biggest competition this year.
