“Overrated” – Ex-Chelsea player slams their recent links with “brilliant” Ligue 1 superstar

Former Chelsea player and now pundit Jason Cundy has made his stance clear on Chelsea’s links to Neymar, labelling the Brazilian as “overrated”.

UOL reported that the player is willing to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer and Chelsea are potentially leading the race to land him.

The 31-year-old has 24 goal contributions in 20 Ligue 1 appearances this season and has 35 from 29 matches across all competitions.

Throughout his career, the winger has won league titles in France and Spain as well as a Champions League in the 2014/15 season.

Speaking on TalkSport, Cundy tore into the prospect of Neymar going to Chelsea and believes he will only add to the club’s issues.

He stated, “I’ve been quite consistent over the years with this one. There’s a reason why PSG are trying to sell him [Neymar]. He’s obviously a brilliant player, I think overrated. I don’t think he’s anywhere near the bracket of the best.

“I don’t think he’s the type of person Chelsea need right now.

“We’re a circus already, we don’t want two circuses turning up. Neymar, there’s a circus around him, that’s the point I’m making.

“He flatters to deceive since he since he left Barcelona he’s not won anything of note.”

Whilst there’s an argument to be made about whether or not he would work at Chelsea, the Brazilian is one of the best players of the last decade.

He’s won nearly all there is in his career and has been a big contributing factor to the success of Barcelona and PSG when he’s played.

Had he failed to win any Ligue 1 titles with the Parisian outfit, he’d have been criticised for not achieving it. So to say he’s not won anything of note since leaving Spain is a far-fetched statement.
