Speaking with Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports, James Maddison opened up on Ange Postecoglou’s front foot pressing, and how he imprinted that even on his first day at the club.

Maddison described the front foot pressing of Postecoglou as one of “the main messages” for the team, saying that if you look at his previous sides they all adopt a front foot press.

He also opened up in the interview about an incident in pre season where Spurs took a 2-0 lead and stopped pressing on the front foot, saying that Postecoglou “went ballistic” at halftime against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Postecoglou wants his side to continue to press, not let off the gas and put games to bed by scoring three, four, five goals and not allowing teams to settle into the game.

Tottenham have retuned to the top of the Premier League after beating Fulham 2-0 on Monday, putting them on 23 points in their opening nine games.

Spurs have won seven games and drawn two, and remain one of only two teams unbeaten in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, along with London rivals Arsenal.

Maddison has made 10 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and providing five assists in 763 minutes of football.
