Ange Postecoglou hails “really good” player in Tottenham win against Crystal Palace

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou lauded Timo Werner’s contribution after the 3-1 win against Crystal Palace.

Despite missing an earlier opportunity, Werner redeemed himself by scoring his debut goal for the club, igniting Spurs’ comeback with a tap-in from a Brennan Johnson delivery. Postecoglou commended Werner’s performance in the aftermath of the match.

“I guess it relieves the pressure on them a little bit but just in general I thought he was really aggressive with his running. He kept taking on the full-back and I thought apart from the missed chance his general play was really good. A goal always helps, it was pleasing for us and it was an important time in the game. It was great for him to score,” via TalkSPORT.

Undoubtedly there was a fair few eyebrows raised when Spurs confirmed the signing of Werner because of his previous stint in the Premier League with Chelsea. It wasn’t the fact that he formerly played for Tottenham’s rivals, more to do with the fact his lack of impact led to him being labelled as a ‘flop’ for the Blues.

Nevertheless, Postecoglou appears to have found an effective role in his highly intricate system for the German international. Since signing on loan from Red Bull Leipzig in the January transfer window, Werner has registered a goal and two assists in just five starts in the Premier League.
