Defender spotted in training with Newcastle ahead of Tottenham clash

Newcastle host Tottenham in the early kick-off on Saturday and ahead of the game with Spurs, Eddie Howe has called up 18-year-old defender Alfie Harrison to train with the Magpies’ first-team.

The Tyneside club need to beat the London side to keep their hopes of European football alive as they are just two points away from Man United in sixth place which would secure Europa League football for the 2024/25 campaign.

Harrison is unlikely to feature in the game at the weekend but it is good for the defender to be able to mix it up with the Newcastle senior squad and it allows him to show Howe what he can do.

Harrison joined Newcastle from Man City just 18 months ago and is expected to have a bright future in football. He also has the right manager in Howe overseeing his development as the English coach is not afraid to give young players a chance.

Newcastle have had serious injury issues this season and that has seen the emergence of a top talent in Lewis Miley, while the likes of Alex Murphy and Ben Parkinson have also made their senior debuts.

This is a step in the right direction for Harrison and Newcastle fans may see him get some first-team minutes from next season onwards.
