Club at “advanced stages” to sign Liverpool transfer target, says Fabrizio Romano

Bayern Munich are reportedly now at an advanced stage in their pursuit of the transfer of Schalke wonderkid Assan Ouedraogo, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano on X.

Posting from his official X account, Romano explained that Ouedraogo now looked closer to sealing a move to Bayern, with the likely outcome also being that he would remain with Schalke until 2025 before finally linking up with Bayern at the Allianz Arena.

See the post below for details as Romano says Bayern are now the clear favourites to sign the talented 18-year-old, whose form has also previously attracted admiration from Liverpool and AC Milan, as Romano told us last year when he spoke to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column.

Ouedraogo transfer: Bayern closing in on wonderkid who could’ve been exciting Liverpool signing

Ouedraogo could have been an exciting signing for Liverpool, but it now seems the Germany youth international will opt to continue his development at Bayern for the long term.

Given that Bayern are Germany’s biggest club, this is perhaps not too surprising, but it will also be interesting to see how much playing time he gets there in comparison to the opportunities he might have had at Liverpool.

The Reds have done well to promote young players in recent times, and tend to prioritise developing future stars rather than buying ready-made big names like Bayern often do.

Still, moving to Bayern can almost guarantee trophies, which is not quite the case for LFC, especially in this period of uncertainty they’re entering into now that the long-serving and legendary Jurgen Klopp is moving on to be replaced by Arne Slot.

Liverpool fans will hope this doesn’t hurt their club too much when it comes to attracting transfer targets, as working under Klopp could surely have been appealing to a young German player like this.
