Lyon striker rejects Manchester United transfer

Sir Alex Ferguson may still be basking in the glow of his team’s 4-0 thrashing of Arsenal, yet Sky Sports has reported that one of his reputed transfer targets has rejected talk of a move to Old Trafford. Lyon striker Karim Benzema has been earning rave reviews in France this season, yet appears keen on staying put.

“A move to United wouldn’t be right for me at this time,” Benzema told the News of the World.

“I have said I wouldn’t leave Lyon until we’ve won the Champions League and I have no intention of trying to go too quickly.”

If Lyon winning the Champions League is the criteria for the French striker to leave the club, he may have a very long career with the French champions! Nevertheless, it’s clear that Sir Alex Ferguson’s scouting mission in France last week had more to do with next week’s European Cup tie and less to do with individual players.
