New signing excited by Arsenal’s future
by stresster on June 14th, 2008The summer of 2008 will almost certainly not be remembered as ‘The Hunt for Aaron Ramsey’, but it did leave Manchester United with egg on their face, after reporting on their official site that they had agreed a fee for the Cardiff City midfielder, only for Arsenal to do exactly the same and promptly sign the starlet. The Press Association reports that Ramsey is delighted to have joined Arsenal and is genuinely excited about what the future holds (bench-warming here I come!).
“Arsenal is a club which always gives young players an opportunity at the highest level of the game and I am going to work my hardest to be part of future successes here,” said Ramsey, whose £5million move was formally completed on Friday.
“I recently met with Arsene Wenger and he was a big factor in my decision to join Arsenal,” added Ramsey. “He talked to me for a long time about the club and the plans for the future, which really excites me.”
It’s clear that Gunners wanted to capture this player just that little bit more than their rivals and, when you have a wage structure which can’t always compete with the very biggest clubs, it’s all about working that extra bit hard to sign these sort of players. How many times will we see him turn out for the first team next season?

Ramsey, like so many other Arsenal debutantes, will be blooded in the various meaningless EPL CUPS and competitions Arsenal uses to train up, toughen up and test his youth prospects. If he can show talent and potential and the character Arsene demands of his 1st team players, he will be put on the bench for a few EPL matches and might even get to play in the ones that are sure wins, for about 15-20 minutes. This is the pattern Arsene has established each year and it works. Meanwhile he will play with the Reserves and possibly the Junior gunners whenever and wherever Arsene decides. He has got to pay his dues, has got to mature and get used to EPL football and the Arsenal style which is much more sophisticated, harder, aggressive and competitive than Championship League. He can plan on at least 1-2 years of this regime, unless there are serious injuries or problems during the season, in which case he could be come a regular bench-warmer and occasional substitute in quite a few EPL games. Arsene does NOT want to ruin this kid physically or emotionally, which could happen if he rushes him into a premature EPL season against the ferocious competition we will see in 2008-9 season, what with Chelski, ManU, Liverpool, Totenham, and Everton whacking each other and the lesser EPL lights in order to win silverware.
