King Kev misses out as another Newcastle target goes elsewhere
by jakepjohnson on July 17th, 2008Kevin Keegan must wonder what he has done to upset world football. Newcastle fans will jump on my back with this statement, but it seems that as soon as they are linked to a player, he joins someone else. Tottenham player Luka Modric is a high-profile example of this.
Pablo Aimar has rejected the chance to don the famous black-and-white stripes, agreeing to join Portuguese giants Benfica for €7.5 million, around £6.25 million. The Real Zaragoza forward was heavily linked to the Magpies throughout the week, with Everton also mentioned, but it appears that the lure of St James Park was not enough as Aimar chose Champions League football.
Zaragoza communications director Luis Sol told Portuguese website maisfutebol.iol.pt:
He is about to sign a contract with Benfica. Between Zaragoza and Benfica everything is sorted out. The doors are open for Aimar to become Benfica player.
Keegan is also eyeing West Ham defender Anton Ferdinand, who also looks set to snub a move north. Having sealed the signing of Danny Guthrie from Liverpool and Jonas Gutierrez from Real Mallorca, are Newcastle fans at all worried about the ‘targets’ that King Kev is missing out on? Or are they happy with the squad they have, considering there was a late-season burst of form from the Magpies?

You know why some might jump on that statement Jake. Cos its utter balls mate!
Aimar was 95% signed to Benfica when the press decided we were after him. Then low and behod the press decide we’ve missed out on him! All the while Everton have been follwoing the situation a lot longer than the Toon supposedly had, yet we don’t see ‘Everton mis out’ headlines ?
And they says there is no conspiracy.
P.S. The relish that you lot belive The Mail and The Mirror should be an embarassment it really should.

Not too worried, aimar sounded good but if that was the case why were so few clubs interested. As for ferdinand, he hasn’t proven himself as quality and if others feel he is, why are west ham letting him leave. If the Frings rumour is in anyway true i would much preferred to get him. Maybe not the flashiest but proven in the euros, at 31!! Been doing it for years. Nothing wrong with maturity if its mixed with a strong young core.
Always knew it was going to be hard for Kev to get faces in, too many clubs vieing it out for the same players all trying to break into the next tier!! Tough task but with 2 defenders and a good midfielder, I’d be happy with the summer moves.

Famous newcastle black and white stripes??Haha, they arent famous outside newcastle. Yet again the jokers have been snubbed. Even bolton, boro and fulham are showing more ambition! There transfers so far have been shocking! they have got relegation written all over them. They are less attractive to join than portsmouth who are signing england internationals in crouch and defoe. Who has kk signed? Guthrie from liverpools reserves! They were never a big club but at least they used to have a go. It looks like they have now given up, next stop, fizzy pop league!!!!

Did someone just say Frings? you have got to be kidding me! Even at 31 and on his last legs he will go to a bigger club. what can newcastle offer? Champs league footy? No!
Uefa footy? No!
Big wages? No!
The promise that things will get better? No chance!
You should be looking at players like Bullard , but i dont even think you could tempt him away!

Grow up Mark, your just one of a number of idiotic fans and southern journalists. Worry about your own team. And don’t reply to this until you’ve gone through puberty, because your comments show a clear lack of understanding of NUFC. I will not be checking back on this page so there is no point in replying. Have a nice day.
