Arsene Wenger is reportedly preparing a surprise January bid for Fiorentina attacker Stevan Jovetic as he continues to track targets to boost his Gunners attack.

Jovetic has been converted from a floating attacker to an out and out striker and has grown successfully into the role, netting 14 goals in 27 appearances last term and another eight in 16 starts during the current campaign.

Arsene Wenger may feel that following Fiorentina’s capture of Italian forward Giuseppe Rossi from Villarreal the Stadio Artemi Franchi side may be open to big money offers for the Montenegrin striker.

The former Partizan Belgrade attacker is into his fifth season at Fiorentina and could well be tempted by the prospect of a Premier League move and Arsene Wenger is keen to land the in-form striker to help strengthen the Arsenal attack.

For much of the season Wenger has relied heavily on summer signing Olivier Giroud, who has had a patchy first term in England, but has recently opted to use Theo Walcott in his preferred striking role with positive results.

And though both Lukas Podolski and Gervinho could be used as forwards both are more often employed in wide areas.

Wenger is ready to make an offer in the region of £20m as he looks to improve his attack this month as Arsenal look to make in roads in their pursuit of an all important Champions League berth.

Arsenal currently sit in sixth spot, some seven points off local rivals Tottenham who sit in fourth spot, though the Gunners do have a game in hand which they play on Wednesday night at home to West Ham.
