Arsenal defender Andre Santos has expressed his desire to seek a permanent move away from the club according to The Metro.

The Brazilian defender endured a torrid time at the club since joining from Fenerbahce 18 months ago.

The player joined from the Turkish giants for £6.8 million but has struggled to adapt to life in England and has been the subject of constant criticism from Arsenal fans.

While the player’s attacking prowess has never been in question, the left-backs defensive qualities have regularly been exposed as woefully inadequate.

Santos is back to enjoying his football after moving to Brazilian club Gremio during the January transfer window.

The Brazilian has gone on to express his desire to make a permanent return to his homeland in the hope of regaining his place in the Brazilian national team before next summer’s World Cup finals tournament.

A move away from the club may suit both Santos and Arsenal. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger brought in Nacho Monreal from Malaga as Santos’ replacement and the Spaniard has put in a string of impressive performances in the Arsenal back line.

Monreal netted his first goal for the Gunners during their 2-0 victory in the Premier League over Swansea.
