Arsenal are hoping to secure the signing of Atletico Madrid’s Adrian Lopez this summer according to The Daily Express.

The Gunners were reported to be close to signing the Spanish striker during the January transfer window, only for a move to break down after the clubs failed to agree a fee for the player.

Arsenal remain interested in the player and it is thought that Atletico are now willing to reduce their asking price after some inconsistent displays from Adrian.

But the Gunners may now find themselves facing competition for the player’s signature.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino knows Adrian well following his time in charge of Espanyol and is keen to bring the player to the St. Mary’s Stadium.

Southampton have reportedly told Atletico they are prepared to better any offer they receive from the Emirates Stadium for the Spanish striker.

Reports in recent days have suggested Adrian could move on from the Spanish capital for as little as £8 million but it is not clear whether Southampton’s emerging interest will inflate that fee.

Adrian has scored just three times this season for Atletico but remains highly rated by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger who is keen to bring in attacking reinforcements this summer.
