Catalan giants set sights on Etihad captain.

Check in to Manchester United vs Manchester City

Barcelona are keeping tabs on Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany according to The Mail on Sunday.

The Belgian defender played a pivotal role in the Manchester City that won the Premier League title last season his absence with injury this year was a significant factor in City surrendering a 15 point lead to city rivals Manchester United.

Kompany is rapidly becoming one of the most highly rated defenders in Europe but has been out of action for City since January after suffering a calf injury.

That has led to a club-vs-country row for Kompany between City and Belgium after the player’s club boss Roberto Mancini publically criticised the centre-back and his national team manager after he made his first appearance for over two months for Belgium during their World Cup qualification game against Macedonia.

Kompany is reported to have been furious at the public humiliation and is now considering his future at the Etihad side.

Barcelona look set to swoop as they prepare for life without Carlos Puyol. The ageing defender is reaching the end of his career and the La Liga side are keen to bring in a replacement for the Spanish defender, who is able to fit in with the team’s passing style of play.

The Catalan giants have reportedly tagetted Kompany after being put off by the price Borussia Dortmund were demanding for German centre-back Mats Hummels.
