Xavi Dismisses Suggestions Iker Casillas Could Move To Barcelona

Spanish midfielder believes it is unlikely Casillas will arrive at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona midfielder Xavi has dismissed suggestions that Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas could arrive at the club this summer according to Goal.com.

The Spanish goalkeeper’s future has been under constant speculation this season after Jose Mourinho became the first Real Madrid boss to drop the goalkeeper in over a decade.

Casillas has still failed to establish himself in the starting eleven and has publically voiced his unhappiness at the current management.

Spanish newspaper Marca revealed in January that Casillas had informed club officials that he would be handing in a transfer request should Jose Mourinho remain in charge of the club at the beginning of next season.

That has prompted speculation that Casillas could make a move to Real Madrid’s bitter rivals Barcelona.

The Catalan giants are known to be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper after their current number one Victor Valdes informed them he would not be signing a new contract at the club.

But Barcelona legend Xavi has poured cold water on speculation that Casillas could complete what would be one of the most controversial deals in living memory.

“I feel bad for Iker that he has ended up on the bench and I think it’s unfair. I do not think that he will come to Barcelona, though,” said Xavi.

“He’s a real Madridista. We cannot look beyond that. I would welcome him with open arms, but I cannot see it happen to be honest.”
