Liverpool are favourites to land the in-demand defender.
Liverpool are lining up a bid for Toulouse defender Aymen Abdennour after scouting the highly rated Tunisian, according to the Metro.
The Reds are in need of defensive reinforcements this summer with the news that legendary defender and club servant Jamie Carragher will call time on his career and retire at the end of this season.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been strongly linked with a raid on his old club Swansea City, with centre-back and captain Ashley Williams rumoured to be a prime target. The Welshman is also known to be wanted by Arsenal.
Abdennour can play at left-back as well as in the centre of defence, and has also been watched by La Liga giants Barcelona, though Liverpool now seem to be in the driving seat to secure one of Ligue 1’s most in-demand defenders.
The 23-year-old wants a move to the Premier League over anywhere else, which should see Rodgers land him as one of his first signings of the summer, as the club look to strengthen their bid for a top four place in the league next season.
Liverpool are also chasing a striker, but look likely to miss out on Barcelona striker David Villa, who is favourite to join Tottenham.
